Who Barlingua is

We’re a team of avid language-lovers and teachers who create innovative, pathway-based language classes that employees rave about.

Our Story

Barlingua emerged from a language love story between our founders and their passion for a new work culture.

Graeme and Lina met in London through a language exchange program. Life took them to Berlin, where they were inspired to use their language teaching skills and cross-cultural experience.

In 2017, Barlingua was born. Today, the team design language classes that challenge and motivate by harnessing innovative learning pathway methods and creating a warm, easygoing environment.

Our Mission

Our team helps specialists in HR and People + Culture ensure that language learning:

01

Is a meaningful, motivating experience, that employees actually want to show up to.

02

Is easily and seamlessly integrated into any company, and agile enough to grow and adapt to changing teams and situations.

03

Builds people’s capacity to fully express themselves in a new language. Whether that’s having the confidence to lead meetings or feeling confident and comfortable to fully participate in the culture of a place.

Our team of infectiously enthusiastic teachers, most of whom have been with Barlingua right from the start and are ready to help and support companies interested in bringing language classes to life in their workplace.

Our teaching methods

Diverse Teaching Methods

We employ a multitude of techniques to get the best out of our students, we don’t believe in simply ‘sticking to the book’. First of all, we believe it is important to promote a fun and relaxed learning environment where the students really feel like they can express themselves in their foreign language. We use teachers who are not only friendly but who are able to show a high level of empathy towards their student’s experiences.

Friendly Learning Environment

This step helps to develop a ‘communicative’ approach to the learning process, which facilitates an environment where the students feel comfortable with talking in class. We also encourage students to practice their foreign language in their free time with their native speaker colleagues, for example in the kitchen while on a coffee break.

Active Learning

Our teachers frequently make use of a methodology which is ‘output orientated’ and so students have the opportunity to apply their skills to real-life situations within the workplace. Furthermore, we create a dedicated lesson plan for each group which is implemented by our qualified teachers using material which is applicable to your business.
